Dear Parents/Carers, Students and Friends of Prospect High School,
Trivia Night
Trivia Night, last Wednesday night, proved to be an entertaining and fun evening for our school community. Teams were very competitive and keen to win competitions run between rounds and take home the generous prizes and silent auction items. Many thanks to Ms Gill and the SLB for organising and hosting this event. Thanks also to our wonderful catering team for the delicious snacks.
Forestry Excursion
Prospect High School makes every effort to offer opportunities to assist students with future career and employment pathways. We realise that many students are not aware of employment opportunities and employment trends. A group of students has been working with forestry industry representatives and experienced hands-on activities. This group was also fortunate to experience a field day where students were able to gain information about future career opportunities. Thank you to Mr Poke and Mr Bergamin for their support of this.
NAPLAN Data
Last Friday, on the Student Free Day, staff analysed the 2021 NAPLAN data. I am pleased to report there is much to celebrate. NAPLAN data compares our mean school scores with the mean for similar schools, the Tasmanian mean score and Australian mean score for the domains of Reading, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, and Writing and Numeracy. This year’s NAPLAN report for Prospect High school show:
- Grade 9 results for Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation and Numeracy are above the Tasmanian mean,
- Grade 9 results for Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation and Numeracy are well above the mean score for similar schools,
- Grade 7 results for Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation and Numeracy are above the Tasmanian mean,
- Grade 7 results for Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation and Numeracy are well above the mean score for similar schools.
Prospect High School has many consistent strategies that all teachers use when teaching to ensure students have the best chance of improving and achieving success with their learning. It is very pleasing we are having a positive impact on student learning.
Athletics Carnival
Students and staff enjoyed a well-organised and action-packed athletics carnival on Wednesday. Students donning house colours, dancing to energising music and enjoying a delicious barbecue organised by the SLB were features of the day, as well as a number of records broken. Participation from all age groups was a highlight and behaviour of students throughout the day was excellent. The weather proved to be challenging at times however most events were able to be run. Thank you to the parents who came along to support your children.

Mrs Lee Barker
Principal
We're heading into decision time for all our Year 10 students. Next Friday, 12th November, both Launceston College and Newstead College course counsellors will be coming to PHS to sit with students and enrol them in their chosen courses for 2022.
Year 10 teachers and Years 11 and 12 teachers will be available to accompany students to their enrolment talk if a parent/guardian is unable to attend and/or if students wish.
The Education Act dictates that all students, who are under the age of 18 years, must be enrolled in full-time education. An exemption may be granted if a student has obtained full-time employment and/or has an apprenticeship/traineeship which includes training by an approved RTO. Students, who intend and/or are hoping to obtain an apprenticeship and/or find employment, MUST enrol in Year 11 until such time as an exemption is granted.
Please ensure that you have selected a time to enrol in Year 11 for 2022. Any questions or concerns, please contact Jennifer Pollard: jennifer.pollard@education.tas.gov.au

Exciting Eagle’s Nest Café Renovations Update
This term we have enhanced our café with comfy sofas, coffee tables, screening panels, and we will soon have new lighting to showcase our space.
Our Catering, Pathways to Work and Tier 2 Barista Basics classes have been working hard to build food preparation, espresso making and customer service skills that have helped them gain confidence and maybe even employment in the busy post covid and holiday period.
It’s a wonderful place for both students and staff alike to work and catch up and we would love to host people from the Prospect High School community. Please email adrienne.mcmahon@education.tas.gov.au if you would like more information.
