Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Carers, Students and Friends of Prospect High School,

Trivia Night

Trivia Night, last Wednesday night, proved to be an entertaining and fun evening for our school community. Teams were very competitive and keen to win competitions run between rounds and take home the generous prizes and silent auction items. Many thanks to Ms Gill and the SLB for organising and hosting this event. Thanks also to our wonderful catering team for the delicious snacks.

Forestry Excursion

Prospect High School makes every effort to offer opportunities to assist students with future career and employment pathways. We realise that many students are not aware of employment opportunities and employment trends. A group of students has been working with forestry industry representatives and experienced hands-on activities. This group was also fortunate to experience a field day where students were able to gain information about future career opportunities. Thank you to Mr Poke and Mr Bergamin for their support of this.

NAPLAN Data

Last Friday, on the Student Free Day, staff analysed the 2021 NAPLAN data. I am pleased to report there is much to celebrate. NAPLAN data compares our mean school scores with the mean for similar schools, the Tasmanian mean score and Australian mean score for the domains of Reading, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, and Writing and Numeracy. This year’s NAPLAN report for Prospect High school show:

  • Grade 9 results for Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation and Numeracy are above the Tasmanian mean,
  • Grade 9 results for Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation and Numeracy are well above the mean score for similar schools,
  • Grade 7 results for Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation and Numeracy are above the Tasmanian mean,
  • Grade 7 results for Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation and Numeracy are well above the mean score for similar schools.

Prospect High School has many consistent strategies that all teachers use when teaching to ensure students have the best chance of improving and achieving success with their learning. It is very pleasing we are having a positive impact on student learning.

Athletics Carnival

Students and staff enjoyed a well-organised and action-packed athletics carnival on Wednesday. Students donning house colours, dancing to energising music and enjoying a delicious barbecue organised by the SLB were features of the day, as well as a number of records broken. Participation from all age groups was a highlight and behaviour of students throughout the day was excellent.  The weather proved to be challenging at times however most events were able to be run. Thank you to the parents who came along to support your children.

School Association meeting – Eagles Nest Café

The final School Association meeting for 2021 will be held on Tuesday 9th November at 5pm in the Eagles Nest Café (entry behind the drop-off circle). Some agenda items include mobile phone policy, learning dispositions, levies. Light refreshments will be served.
