Dear Parents, Carers, Students and Friends of Prospect High School,
I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend. It was nice to have this extended break in the middle of term.
COVID Update
The Department of Education has released their updated plan for Weeks 6-10 of Term 1. There are only a small number of changes. In summary:
Face-to-face learning at school will continue with COVID-safe measures in place (face masks indoors, physical distancing of 1.5m, regular sanitising of hands, stay at home if sick, test if there are symptoms). If students need to isolate due to COVID-19, they can learn at home via the Virtual Learning Centre.
Regular school and learning activities will continue in a COVID-safe manner.
Whole school gatherings are not permitted.
Face mask requirements will continue, in line with Public Health advice. Face masks only need to be worn indoors by parents and visitors (wearing them outdoors is optional).
Please see Frequently Asked Questions for Parents and Carers link:
COVID-19 Parent FAQ Site (education.tas.gov.au) for further information.
Reporting
This year, parents will notice some changes to reporting in 2022. This follows the Department of Education’s Review into Reporting to Families.
Firstly, a new 9-point scale will replace the A-E ratings. This change won’t apply to students in Years 11 and 12.
The second main change is that teachers will not provide written comments with any reports. However, there will be more regular communication throughout the year. This includes two face-to-face Parent/Teacher/Student conferences, one in Term 2 and the other in Term 3. Communication may also be through online communication and/or telephone calls.
The Department of Education has produced a video for parents introducing the changes: Changes to reporting in 2022
Interim Reports will be sent home for students on Friday April 1st. The Interim Reports provide information to parents that include an assessment of students’ learning and personal/social behaviours in the areas of: Effort, Attitude, Organisation and Task Completion. The ratings available are: Needs Attention, Acceptable, Good, Excellent.
Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to students and staff on another successful Athletics Carnival. The carnival this year has been trialled with two changes: held in Term 1 instead of Term 4 and over two days. COVID restrictions meant that parents were unable to attend. However, this and other COVID safety precautions did not prevent good participation and great encouragement given by student spectators. Congratulations to place getters and record breakers. I’d like to make a special mention to all Grade 10 students who showed great House spirit and were an awesome example to the rest of the school. Well done! Many thanks to the HPE team for leading the organisation and to non-teaching and teaching teams for their help and support on the day.
Kind regards
Lee Barker
Principal

The School Association is made up of the parents, staff, and community members of a school. The School Association is an important part of the school, working with the Principal to achieve shared outcomes for learners attending the school and for the benefit of the whole school community. The purpose of the School Association is to provide members with a way to participate and support the school. The following people are automatically members of the School Association:
- parents (parents or guardians who have children or young people enrolled at the school). Should you wish to be exempt as a member please notify the School Association in writing.
- staff (permanent and fixed-term employees at the school)
- the Principal who is an automatic member of the School Association
- community members can apply to be accepted as a member
All members of the School Association can nominate to be involved in the Committee.
Nominations for the School Association Committee are now open.
Please complete the attached nomination form and return no later than 3:00pm on 5th April 2022.
Nominations can be forwarded to the Returning Officer, Debbie Chancellor, School Business Manager via email to prospect.high@education.tas.gov.au or the school office.
The School Association Constitution provides further information on the election process and the timings of the School Association Year. ** A member of the Committee who is to retire, or who has retired, may nominate for re-election as a member of the Committee. What is the School Association Committee?
Being part of the Committee also provides an opportunity to be actively involved and engaged in the school.

Took the Children Away by Archie Roach
Picture Book Indigenous Author
Archie Roach AM’s deeply personal song, ‘Took the Children Away’, from his 1990 debut album, Charcoal Lane, was the first song ever to receive a prestigious Australian Human Rights Award. Its impact was immediate, shining a stark light on Australia’s shameful past practices of removing children from their families. The song also speaks of love and reconnection and has travelled across seas into the hearts of First Nations communities everywhere. Archie’s iconic lyrics sit alongside evocative illustrations by his beloved soulmate and musical collaborator, Ruby Hunter. Also included are Archie’s recollections of his family and rare historical photographs.
