Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Carers, Students and Friends of Prospect High School,

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend. It was nice to have this extended break in the middle of term.

COVID Update

The Department of Education has released their updated plan for Weeks 6-10 of Term 1. There are only a small number of changes. In summary:

Face-to-face learning at school will continue with COVID-safe measures in place (face masks indoors, physical distancing of 1.5m, regular sanitising of hands, stay at home if sick, test if there are symptoms).  If students need to isolate due to COVID-19, they can learn at home via the Virtual Learning Centre.

Regular school and learning activities will continue in a COVID-safe manner.

Whole school gatherings are not permitted.

Face mask requirements will continue, in line with Public Health advice. Face masks only need to be worn indoors by parents and visitors (wearing them outdoors is optional).

Please see Frequently Asked Questions for Parents and Carers link:

Reporting

This year, parents will notice some changes to reporting in 2022. This follows the Department of Education’s Review into Reporting to Families.

Firstly, a new 9-point scale will replace the A-E ratings. This change won’t apply to students in Years 11 and 12.

The second main change is that teachers will not provide written comments with any reports. However, there will be more regular communication throughout the year. This includes two face-to-face Parent/Teacher/Student conferences, one in Term 2 and the other in Term 3. Communication may also be through online communication and/or telephone calls.

The Department of Education has produced a video for parents introducing the changes: Changes to reporting in 2022

Interim Reports will be sent home for students on Friday April 1st. The Interim Reports provide information to parents that include an assessment of students’ learning and personal/social behaviours in the areas of: Effort, Attitude, Organisation and Task Completion. The ratings available are: Needs Attention, Acceptable, Good, Excellent.

Athletics Carnival

Congratulations to students and staff on another successful Athletics Carnival. The carnival this year has been trialled with two changes: held in Term 1 instead of Term 4 and over two days. COVID restrictions meant that parents were unable to attend. However, this and other COVID safety precautions did not prevent good participation and great encouragement given by student spectators. Congratulations to place getters and record breakers. I’d like to make a special mention to all Grade 10 students who showed great House spirit and were an awesome example to the rest of the school. Well done! Many thanks to the HPE team for leading the organisation and to non-teaching and teaching teams for their help and support on the day.

Kind regards

Lee Barker
