Prospect High Maths Champions
The Australian Maths Competition is the world’s largest maths competition. It is an engaging 30-problem competition that aims to demonstrate the importance and relevance of mathematics in students’ everyday lives. Over 600,000 students from years 3-12 take part each year, 100,000 of whom are international entries.
This year the competition took place at the start of Term 3, so the 44 Prospect High School participants have been waiting for some time to get their results.
Prospect High commends all students who took part in the competition and congratulate them, irrespective of whether or not they received an award. Participating was courageous as it meant taking a risk. The competition was challenging and tested students’ knowledge and application of mathematics in unfamiliar contexts. All students demonstrated a commendable commitment to learning.
The school recognises and congratulates the following students who received awards:
CREDIT: (Grade 7) Stephen, Ned, (Grade 8) Lani, (Grade 9) Quinn, Liam, Angus, Isabella, Luca, (Grade 10) Ebony, Lachlan, Will, Mohammad, Hayley, Angus and Amos.
DISTINCTION: (Grade 9) Erik, Tiquiri, (Grade 10) Amy and Christian.
Further congratulations to two students who achieved a High Distinction which ranked them in the top 3% of entrants in their respective grades. Both students have been invited to celebrate their achievement at a state-wide ceremony hosted by the Australian Maths Trust in Hobart.
HIGH DISCTINCTION: (Grade 8) Dante, (Grade 10) Jordan.
The Australian Maths Competition will take place again in 2023 and it is certainly not too early to start to encourage all students to consider entering.
