Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Guardians, Students and Friends of Prospect High School,

Welcome to the final newsletter for Term 2.

External School Review

This week we have been involved in an external school review. I am very pleased to advise the panel reported some very positive findings including:

  • There is a strong collegial and professional staff culture which is driven by a desire to see all students learn and succeed at Prospect High.

  • The tone of the school reflects a shared commitment to improvements in student academic and wellbeing outcomes. The improvement agenda is clearly evident. There is a calm orderly feel to the campus and the school has worked to create an attractive physical environment that supports learning.

  • Respectful, polite and caring relationships are fostered and seen in the way staff, families and students interact and the way in which they speak of the school.

Findings from the panel also affirmed our future direction with teaching and learning including further developing understandings and use of our instructional model, increasing our feedback culture and exploring more avenues for student voice and agency.

 NAIDOC Week

This week has been NAIDOC week and there have been opportunities to participate in a range of activities in English, HASS, Foods and Art and also a flag raising ceremony to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. One notable activity at Prospect High School was a Bush Tucker lunch prepared by Mrs McMahon’s 9/10 Food By Design class. Venison pie, salt and pepper crocodile and bush herbs were a feature as well as authentic table ware and decorations. Students enjoyed eating their meals in the Café.

Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences

Thank you to the many parents and students who attended parent teacher at Prospect High School. Although telephone or online conversations were offered, face-to-face was the preferred option. It was pleasing to hear conversations were predominantly about strategies in which students could improve their progress/results and the support teachers could offer.

 School Association

The next meeting of the School Association will be held on Tuesday 9th August at 5pm in D block. Please come along and join discussions and planning for our wonderful school. Among other things we will review findings from the External School Review.

In conclusion I would like to wish everyone a relaxing and safe holiday. A reminder that Monday 25th July is a Student Free Day.

Looking forward to seeing students on Tuesday 26th July.

    Kind regards
