Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Guardians, Students and Friends of Prospect High School,

Mid-Year Reporting 2022

Next week students will receive mid-year reports which provides achievement progress to date, an indication of their work habits with regards to effort, attitude, organisation and task completion, and attendance at school.

The new look report will show your child’s learning achievement differently. A new 9-point visual scale replaces A-E ratings for students in Years 1 to 10.

The 9-point scale will show more specifically where your child’s learning achievement is against the expected standard for their year level.

There will be no teacher comments on the report. Parent/teacher/student conferences will again be offered in the final week of term. These are a great opportunity to discuss how your child is progressing with their learning. Term 4 reports will also be in this format.

For more information about the changes to reports please visit the Department of Education’s website at: Reporting - The Department of Education Tasmania1. The Department have produced a video to explain the changes.

If your child is in Years 11–12 reports are issued to students twice a year.  Reports for Years 11–12 cover progress in subjects against Tasmanian Assessment, Standards and Certification course criteria.  Reports for Years 11–12 are also issued where students are undertaking a Vocational Education and Training programme and these indicate how students are meeting units of competence.

Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences

Information for access to face-to-face conversations, telephone or online conversations will be provided with reports to discuss the progress your child has made and the steps they can take to build on that learning for the remainder of the year.

Conferences will be held in week 10, the final week of term. As with last year Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences will be structured in a way that valuable feedback can be given. Research shows that a strong and effective feedback culture is one in which both students and parents/guardians are involved in feedback conversations.

To guide and assist the parent-teacher-student conversations and ensure consistency of approach, we have compiled questions. You are encouraged to discuss these questions with your child prior to attending the parent-teacher-student conversation.

  1. What areas of this subject are going well for you?
  2. Which areas of this subject do you see as a future focus for you? What support and action do I need to help you with?
  3. What progress would you like to have made in this subject by the end of the year?
  4. Is there anything else you would like to discuss?

We look forward to seeing you at Parent-Teacher-Student conferences.

Career and Life Planning

Last Monday students participated in Career and Life Planning. The program ensures students in Years 7-12 learn skills and knowledge to discover their future career pathways based on their interests and suitability.  Our partnership with Beacon Foundation and members of the community, businesses and industry provides great opportunities for students to explore a range of career options including areas in which there is a skill shortage. Thanks to Ms Gill for co-ordinating this program. Students were presented with the following opportunities:

Grade 7 – Speed Careering

Grade 8 – Timberlink presentation and Speed Careering

Grade 9 – Speed Careering, RAAF video and Careerify (What is TCE/VET?)

Grade 10 – Resume, MyFutures and Careerify websites
