Athletics Carnival and Swimming Carnival Information

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL 2022 INFORMATION:

The Athletics Carnival will be held in Week 6, Term 1 (Thursday 17th and Friday 18th March), due to current COVID restrictions we are unable to invite families to attend. The event will be held over two days based on 2021 feedback from students and staff. This format is consistent with many other high schools in the North of the state.

 

The benefits of a two day program are:

  • students will have more time at events as they will only be required at one event at a time,
  • promotes outdoor learning as encouraged by DoE as a COVID strategy for learning and connecting with school,
  • fosters and encourages ‘ team house’ culture and
  • enhances student/staff relationships early in the school year.

 

This significant change to the Athletics program is a proactive approach to recommendations from the NHSSA.  The timing of our carnivals will align with Inter High Carnivals in 2023. The Inter High NHSSA team will be determined from this event and students will participate in the Athletics Inter High Carnival in Term 4. The team will have an opportunity to practice in term 4 prior to the carnival.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL 2022 INFORMATION:

Due to COVID restrictions, venue density requirements and everchanging circumstances we are unable to hold our annual Swimming Carnival in Term 1. We will run our regular carnivals program in late Term 3/Term 4 (date TBC). The Swimming Inter High Carnival is still being held in week 9 of Term 1 and Prospect High will be entering a team. On Thursday March 24th the HPE team will take those who sign up and last year’s Inter High team to the Launceston Aquatic Centre to participate in Swimming Trials (12-3pm). Students will have the opportunity to sign up for this in the coming weeks if they believe they could place on the Inter High team based on ability. This will ensure students have a fair opportunity to compete to be a part of the Inter High team. All novelty and non-competitive events will be held later in the year at our annual carnival, and students will then have the opportunity to break records and compete to become Carnival Champions.

KEY DATES:

Thursday 17th & Friday March 18th – Athletics Carnival

Thursday 24th March – Inter High Swimming Trials

Wednesday 6th April – Inter High Swimming
