Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Carers, Students and Friends of Prospect High School,

Grade 11/12/13

Grade 11, 12 and 13 students have made an excellent start with their learning. Enrolments have been increasing each year as have subject offerings and flexible learning options.  Students have been participating in a range of activities and are enjoying the flexible learning space, common area with new furniture and catering facilities. For enquiries, please contact Jennifer Pollard on 63444744 or Jennifer.pollard@education.tas.gov.au.

School Association

The first School Association meeting for 2022 was held on Tuesday. We welcomed new members and discussed plans for 2022. The School Association was also thanked for their support of the new hats and caps which are a great addition to the uniform. The next meeting will be on Tuesday 7th June at 5.00pm. There will be a short AGM then general meeting. New members are welcome to join. Meetings run for approximately an hour. As you can see this is a great opportunity for parents to be kept informed of our improvement journey, opportunities available for students and be part of the decision-making process at Prospect High School.

Covid Update

We have managed to navigate our way through the first four weeks of Term 1 well with regards to Covid and there has been minimal disruption. Numbers of cases for both students and staff have been low. Thank you to parents and carers for reinforcing and supporting safe practices with your children and to students for their co-operation with the guidelines we have in place.  A reminder to families that Covid 19 safe practices as per Public Health advice and Department of Education guidelines are in place until the end of next week. This includes adults and students maintaining 1.5 metre social distancing and use of sanitiser provided.  It would be appreciated if parents and carers could phone the school to discuss matters rather than coming in person when possible. If students are unwell, please keep them at home. Parents collecting students at the end of day are requested to stay in their cars and depart the school promptly.  Cleaning and hygiene measures implemented last year will continue until otherwise advised.  We are currently waiting on advice for actions that will be in place for weeks 6-10 and will communicate these when available.

Use of Phone for Payment at the Canteen

Our school policy for mobile phone use is to have these away and out of sight for the day from 8.35am until 3.00pm. However if needed students may make phone payments at the canteen. We have been reminding students that phone payments work like card/money payments and the following guidelines need to apply:

  • Phones are only to be held/kept in a pocket and used for payment.
  • Phones are not to be used for any other purpose.
  • Breaches of our phone policy will be followed up by Grade Leadership Teams.

We ask parents for support with these guidelines to ensure students are doing the right thing.

School Events

This term we have not been able to hold our “Welcome” barbecue where new and current parents and families have a chance to meet teachers. Grade teams have sent out information about your child’s teaching team and learning activities. We are also trying to keep social media up to date with information so we can continue to build partnerships with families.

This year Prospect High School have changed the times of the Swimming and Athletics Carnivals. We were unable to hold a Swimming Carnival in Term 1 due to Covid restrictions and this will be held in Term 3 or 4 instead. Our Athletics Carnival will be held in Week 6 on 17th and 18th March.  Further details can be found in this newsletter.

These events help to build school culture and provide time for students to build connections with one another and their teachers.

In conclusion, I hope everyone has an enjoyable long weekend on the 12th-14th March.
