On Thursday the 19^th of August a group of Grade 9 and 10 students from Prospect High School Catering and Food Specialisations classes were able to participate in the Hospitality Showcase presented by the Tasmanian Hotel Association.

We were able to explore a range of different career paths in hospitality starting with cooking. A chef talked to us about opportunities and jobs in the local industry, and she discussed the pathways for a career in hospitality. She also told us that becoming a chef could lead us into a whole new range of roles that we would never have thought of. We then got to cook omelettes where we talked about temperature and consistency- and how to make the perfect omelette.

Our next station was the Barista - were she showed us step-by-step how to use the coffee machine. She talked about her career in hospitality and how it gave her flexibility to travel across the world. We then got to make our own coffees we were shown how to properly texturise the milk and how to do coffee art.

At the bar demonstration, we were lucky enough to be able to try our hand at mocktails. We could use the equipment after the instructor showed us the basic techniques. We then created some delicious drinks which we are keen to try out in the Eagle’s Nest Café at school!
