PHS students were offered the opportunity to meet some outstanding Tasmanians. Students from Grades 8, 9 and 10 were delighted to meet our Tasmanians of the Year. Whilst Tasmania is small, we certainly contribute to the greatness of our country. Via video link, we met Grace Tame, who was also named the 2021 Australian of the Year; on stage, Graeme Stevenson - 2020 Tasmanian Senior Australian of the Year, Edna Pennicott – 2021 Tasmania’s Local Hero, Brian Williams – 2021 Tasmanian Senior Australian of the Year and Toby Thorpe – 2021 Tasmanian Young Australian of the Year.

Each recipient shared their nominable work, opening with Grace, an outspoken advocate for survivors of sexual assault, followed by Brian, a devoted Scout leader and mentor for over 50 years, Edna, the founder of the Kindborough Helping Hands - providing for those facing financial hardship, Toby, a passionate activist for youth empowerment and climate action, and lastly Graeme, a Tasmanian promoter in the agricultural industry, specifically in soil preservation.
