Science and Engineering Challenge
Monday, 22nd of September a group of 32 students attended the Science and Engineering Challenge at the Albert Hall, Launceston. The students were allocated half day or full day activities in groups of four. Prospect High School competed against seven other schools on the day and achieved 4th for the event which is an excellent outcome. Two of our groups finished first overall for the day in their tasks, Future Power and Turbine. TasWater donated some wonderful prizes for the winners of the Turbine activity which were greatly appreciated.
The tasks are designed to test ingenuity and the ability to solve real-world problems using skills from Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Coding and Design. Ultimately, teamwork is what makes or breaks a group. The staff and students had a fantastic day and were proud to be a part of such a wonderful opportunity. A quote from one student was "...that was 40 times better than I thought it was going to be”. Thank you to the sponsors of the event, the University of Newcastle and the University of Tasmania, the Albert Hall, TasWater, the Tasmanian Government, and the Rotary Clubs of Tasmania.
