Principal's Report
Dear Parents, Students and Friends of Prospect High School,
International Women’s Day
On March 10th three Grade 9 students and Ms Hall attended a breakfast sponsored by Rotary Club of Tamar Sunrise to acknowledge International Women’s Day. The breakfast supports young emerging leaders within Northern Tasmania and also has sponsorship from Bell Bay Aluminium. This was a great opportunity for students to listen to some of Tasmania's most inspiring women. Guest speakers included Tanya Harper, a Pakana woman who comes from the ancestral Lands of Tebrakunna and Larapuna. Shona Markham is the General Manager, Operations at Bell Bay Aluminium. Amanda Blyth resides with her family on Flinders Island running the successful Mountain Biking Flinders Island Tour Company. The discussion was led by Penny Terry Creative Director with Healthy Tasmania, and ABC radio presenter.
Proceeds raised from the event will go making Essential Packs for Women, which will be distributed by the Launceston Benevolent Society and their associated networks.
2021 Women’s Forum
A number of grade 10 girls represented Prospect High School at the 2021 Women’s Forum on March 11th at the Country Club Casino. There were many exhibitors, including Services to Law, Accountancy, Hydro, Fitters, Welders, Electricians, Builders and Butchers, and many more. The girls were given the opportunity to talk to exhibitors, receive information and discuss future pathways with successful women in these fields.
Fantastic Fundraising
Student leaders have been working hard to raise money for Relay for Life. This has included selling pies and a free dress day. The Relay for Life event occurs at St Leonards from 1pm Saturday, 13th till 9am Sunday, 14th of March. Good luck this weekend. Thanks to students, Mrs Slore, Mr Andrews, and Mrs Matthews for your support of this very worthwhile cause which brings the community together to raise money for cancer research as well as celebrating cancer survival, and a chance to remember loved ones lost to cancer.
Today at lunch, brave Ava from Grade 8 shaved her head in the central courtyard. Congratulations to Ava for raising over $3000 for leukaemia!
