Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Carers, Students and Friends of Prospect High School,

RESET Program

On 10th December I was fortunate to attend the RESET program Graduation at QMAG together with parents and program coordinators. Grade 7 students and mentors involved in this flexible learning program were given the opportunity to develop skills of communication, problem-solving, resilience and teamwork as well as enhanced literacy and numeracy skills. The DoE’s Values of Courage, Respect, Aspiration and Growth were also explored and developed during the 10-week course with challenges experienced, such as bushwalking, abseiling, rock climbing, bike riding.  Students recalled the wonderful experiences that were offered, their growth in confidence and learning and how much they appreciated being able to participate in this program. Students were awarded certificates and enjoyed morning tea provided by Launceston City Council. Thanks to Constable Dave Simpson (PCYC Police Co-ordinator), PCYC, representatives from the DoE, Mr Mario Bergamin, and Mr Brendan Poke for organising and supervising the program.

Presentation Assembly

Congratulations to all recipients of awards at the Celebration Assembly held last Friday morning in the Prospect High School gymnasium. This was an opportunity to celebrate and recognise the achievements and successes of Grade 10 students. Congratulations also to all involved in organising and delivering the assembly. Musical performances were outstanding. Thank you to guests, parents and family members and staff who attended. Thanks also to sponsors for the donation of prizes.

Eagle Awards

Congratulations to recipients of the prestigious Eagle Awards. Two students from each grade receive this award. Criteria for this award include excellent performance across their education program, demonstration of an exemplary attitude to their learning and demonstrated loyalty to the school. Well to those students.

Grade 10 Celebration Dinner

A very successful Grade 10 Celebration Dinner was held on Monday night at the Country Club Casino. This was one event that was in doubt due to Covid restrictions. To the relief of all, the dinner was able to progress and dancing allowed. Approximately 30 staff attended and enjoyed the company of this group of students including the Grade 10 team – Mr Scott Brewer (SGL), Mrs Sonya Matthews (GL), Ms Briony Bambridge, Mr Joshua Shepherd, Mrs Bronwyn Platz and Mr Greg James (AP). The Grade 10 graduates have been an outstanding group of young adults who have had four fantastic years at Prospect High School and made close friendships, some of which will be life-long friendships. I would like to acknowledge the hard work and creativity that went into the preparation of this evening. The decorations and table settings looked amazing and the students looked stunning. Students and staff enjoyed the catering, music and dancing. Speeches by Bri and Kael were moving and reflective, acknowledging the enormous impact that Prospect High School has had on Grade 10 graduates over the past four years in so many ways.

Reports

Reports have been issued to students. If parents have not received end of year reports please contact the office on 6344 4744.

This year has certainly been memorable. I would like to congratulate the entire school community for the quick uptake of learning at home at the end of Term 1 and for the first six weeks of Term 2. This was certainly a new concept for families and carers, teaching and non-teaching staff. I would like to acknowledge the wonderful work and commitment of teachers who spent hours planning and preparing rigorous and engaging work to cater for the needs of all students and to non-teaching staff for their support. I would also like to acknowledge the amazing support from families and carers who navigated the challenges and supported students through this time. Student engagement data for online learning was very high thanks to the support of parents and carers. All students can be proud of how they engaged in online learning and stayed connected to Prospect High School at this time. There was an outstanding amount of work submitted for assessment in Canvas, emailed to teachers or sent to teachers as hard copies.

Thank you to all teaching and non-teaching staff for their commitment and dedication this year, their support of DoE values – growth, aspiration, respect and courage, and for always putting students at the centre.

Finally, I would like to wish all families an enjoyable Christmas and restful holiday and I look forward to working with the Prospect High School community in 2021.
