Principal's Report

Dear Parents/Carers, Students and Friends of Prospect High School,

Grade 6 Orientation Day

Students from feeder primary schools enjoyed activities on Orientation Day last Wednesday, 25th November. This visit was the final in a series of transition activities throughout the year designed to assist Grade 6 students to feel more at ease about starting high school. Wednesday was specifically designed for students to experience an authentic day in classes. Students were able to experience classes in classrooms that will be theirs next year. They also experienced MDT and Foods and were able to take home what was made.  Downball, activities in the gym and a barbecue, run by the 2020 SLB, were a feature at lunchtime. Feedback from students indicates they are now looking forward to starting in 2021 and feel more prepared. Thank you to Mr Mario Bergamin and Mr Brendan Poke for organising the day, and to teachers and non-teaching staff for assisting in the smooth running of the day.

Many thanks to parents for the positive feedback received about orientation day.

If there are any parents who would like letters, brochures or folders of information, please contact the office on 63444744.

Inter-High Athletics Carnival

Prospect High School finished third overall and also third in the senior and junior shields in the Inter-High Athletics Carnival on Friday, 22nd November. This is a significant achievement to be in the top three placings for a second year in a row with solid performances from all team members. I was very impressed with the skill shown by competitors and encouragement from supporters during my visit to St Leonards.  All team members are to be congratulated on this fantastic result which was due to effort and sportsmanship from all team members. Students were outstanding with both behaviour and effort. A big thank you to Ms Ellie Couch and Mr Poke for their organisation, training and support, and to Mr Mario Bergamin, Ms Holly Geard and Mr Dom Wright for their assistance on the day. Congratulations to Rowan Allen who came second in the 200m. Rowan ran a faster time than the previous record. Thanks to parents who came along to support our team.

AFLW – Grand Final

Congratulations to the Grade 9/10 AFLW team who won the Grand Final against Queechy High School yesterday. Prospect High School hosted the Grand Final and a large crowd of Prospect and Queechy student spectators enjoyed the competitive game.  Congratulations to Tunisha for being awarded best on the ground.(photo/s attached)

Term One Changes

Please be advised that there have been some changes to the Term 1 school holiday dates.

The end date for Term 1, 2021, has been brought forward to allow the school holiday period to commence immediately following Easter Tuesday.

This means that students will not have to return to school for three days between Easter break and Term 1 school holidays, which was previously the case.

The overarching reason behind this decision is to allow for greater learning continuity for students.

The new arrangements are as follows:

Date/s

Event

Wednesday 31 March

End of Term 1 (K-10)

Thursday 1 April

End of Term 1 (11 and 12)

Friday 2 April – Tues 6 April

Easter break

Wed 7 April – Tues 20 April

Term 1 holidays (2 weeks)

Wed 21 April

Term 2 commences

With the school holidays falling directly after Easter, it will be an ideal time for your family to take advantage of the extended holiday period!

All Term dates for 2021 can be found on the Department of Education website at www.education.tas.gov.au/about-us/term-dates/term-dates-2021/
